7 ways to have a cooler home this summer

Summer is coming near. And when it does, You will need these tips to have a cooler living space!

When temperature rises, the sweltering heat will make you uncomfortable. Therefore, these following tips will help you have a cooler home this summer, ready yourself to face the hottest time of the year.

1. Block the sunlight and enjoy a cooler home

When the sun rises high, it is difficult to keep the indoor temperature from rising rapidly. However, you can use some traditional tricks to keep your space cool.
One of those solutions is to keep windows and blinds closed during hot hours of the day. This is the best way to prevent temperature spikes in your home.

2.Ventilate the house

Closing the window does not mean not ventilating or closing the door too tight. It is important to have fresh air circulating in your living space and that ventilation can significantly reduce the temperature of your home. You can open two windows that don't get direct afternoon sun and thus creates a flow of air.

You should first open the windows in the morning to freshen the air and, if possible, repeat this once the sun has set.

3. Choose the right type of curtains

Choosing the right fabric for your curtains will make your home better shielded from the sun (and from the cold). The most recommended fabrics are thick and non-transparent fabrics. You can install curtains made of fiberglass and polyester which helps protect your family from UV rays.

4. Changing furniture's upholstery fabric

Suitable fabric's material will keep your home a cooler place. You can change up your decor according to the season of the year through decorative details or furniture with matching materials. In the summer, you'll need lightweight fabrics like linen or cotton.

You don't have to change out all of your fabric furniture, just add a layer of cool fabric to your sofa, change out pillows, and temporarily replace thicker blankets with lighter ones.

Alternatively, you can replace winter rugs with woven fabrics. This material helps keep your space cool and fresh, especially when you use them with a neutral color palette.

5. Adding greenery

Growing plants at home offers many benefits: from purifying the air, to bringing a sense of relaxation and energy balance to your home. Similarly, plants are also an effective solution to refresh your home interior.

Decorating your home with potted plants and keeping it moist by watering regularly. This will also help keep your house cool in the summer.

6.Consider investing in insulation to keep your home cooler

Insulated windows can keep home cool in the summer and warm in the winter, by preventing heat from entering the house in the summer or heat from escaping through gaps in the winter. Moreover, installing these types of windows will help you save electricity used.

Examine the current condition of the windows. If they are poorly insulated, consider changing them. It might be an investment you probably wouldn't have thought of, but in the long run, you'll save a ton of money. Alternatively, if possible, consider opting for solar-customizable glass, as this reduces the amount of radiation absorbed by the glass without sacrificing brightness.

7. Install ceiling fan

If ceiling fan isn't to your liking, ceiling fan will be a wonderful replacement to help cool the room. You should choose a ceiling fan with a diameter of one meter (if the room is less than twelve square feet). As for larger spaces, choose a ceiling fan with a diameter of 1.2 meters.

Do not overuse the air conditioner because its harmful to health and the environment. Try to stay out of the sun during the hottest hours of the day, and don't forget to plant some indoor plants. Most importantly, open your windows during the coolest part of the day and remember that summer will pass quickly, so enjoy it!
